Dynamos 3 Whitley Warriors 4
Report by Farquhar Matheson (Ice Hockey Herald No 11 February 1970).
Coach Stevenson had every right to be displeased with his squad after this result. The attack frittered away many
good scoring chances , and the defence was slack, and practically non existent at two of the Warriors goals. Warriors
were also below form, probably because their Power Line never came together: K Matthews appearing on defence and doing a good
job in keeping W Lavety subdued.
Though the Dynamos attacked for most of the first period, they had only a Steveson goal to show for their efforts
. They went further ahead early in the second frame and were coasting along when two goals in a minute pit the Warriors level.
Pearson got the first and then Miller picked up a loose puck to poutpace the home defenders and score a fine solo goal.
Stevenson completed his hat-trick at the start of the last period but this was cancelled when buzz bomb Miller
again streaked away and Pearson slipped the puck home. In between these goals T Matthews was yanked down going in on
goal/; it looked like a penalty shot to me. However the Warriors coach had the last laugh as he notched the winner soon after.
In a final flurry, W Lavety missed a great chance to salvage a point for Dynamos.
