Murrayfield Racers 6 Dynamos 4 29 Nov 1970 Autumn Cup
This game opened in fast and furious fashion,
with play quickly switching from end to end. In fact, it was five minutes before the first whistle gave the teams the chance
to change. The game was seven minutes old when McMillan opened Racers account, collecting a pass from Kirk to hit the puck
past McKay. Reilly added a second, but Dynamos hit back and levelled matters when R Stevenson scored twice, with Hester getting
an assist on both occasions. Lovell and Kerr set up Reilly, who gave Racers a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.
Eight minutes into the second, Lovell increased
Racers lead with a fine unassisted goal, but we hen had to wait until the fifth minute of the final period for a further score,
and again it was Lovell, taking advantage of W Lavety being in the sin bin. Two quick goals by W Lavety and B Stevenson put
Dynamos back in the picture, but , just after the change over, Lovell made the points safe for racers with the last goal of
the night.
At the beginning of the third period, Farquhar
Matheson, assistant editor of the Ice Hockey Herald, presented Racers captain Eric Grieve with the league trophy which Racers
won last season.
