DYNAMOS 3 MURRAYFIELD RACERS 8
Report by Bernard Stocks for the Ice Hockey Herald No 44 - 9 December1972
A somewhat disappointing game in which Racers, missing Inglis, Hare and McMillan were stIil not stretched to beat
a home side strengthened by the return of Shlelds and Callaghan from foreign fields, It took only three minutes for the
visitors to establish a two goal lead through Kerr and D. Reilly and though A. Lavety opened Dynamos' account halfway through
the period it was perhaps indicatlve of Glasgows forward problems that this was the first direct shot at Reid in the match.
D. Reilly made it 3-1 before the end of the first perIod. Grant replaced, McKay in the Glasgow nets for the second
period in which Dynamos at last began to find some cohesion. The defence, wIth the two Lavety brothers showIng up well, began
to master the Racers' front line men, while McCain, Stevenson, McBrIde and Hester raIsed hopes time and again with theIr fast
IncIsIve raiding. The only goal of the period, n the last minute, came from D. Reilly, who throughout the evening always looked
the likeliest player of elther, side to find the net. Stevenson claimed hIs 99th offIcial goal early in the third and then
came an unexpected three goals in seventy seconds burst. Wood scored for Racers, Carroll rounded off a McCain - McBrIde move
and D Reilly raced through the Dynamos defence for hIs fourth of the night. A seemingly good goal by McBrlde was chalked
off, and this didn't please the former Ayr coach who shortly thereafter was required to repair to the penalty box ,for a ten
minute dissent penalty. GrIeve and Archibald then put the finalresult well beyond, doubt.
B.S. STAR RATINGS *** D.Reilly **B Stevenson * A Lavety.
